LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A 12-year-old boy waiting for a school bus Thursday morning was struck by a car just after 8:30 a.m.

The accident occurred in the area of 68th Street West and Sunshine Boulevard North in Lehigh Acres.

Devon Royas was walking down and driveway and stepped into the road without looking in both directions.

The boy was hit by a 2004 Toyota Camry driven at a slow speed by 41-year-old Marie Auguste.

The boy suffered a head injury and road rash but was conscious and alert when emergency responders arrived to take him to the hospital.

Traffic deputies have a reminder for parents:  Please make sure your children know how to contact you in case of emergency.
