Fort Myers police operation targets guns

FORT MYERS, Fla. - An ongoing effort by the Fort Myers Police Department to get guns off the street resulted in dozens of arrests in the month of August.

Operation Safe Neighborhood works to crack down on people who illegally carry firearms.  Undercover vice and uniformed patrol officers removed 33 guns from city streets.

In addition to taking away the weapons 964 traffic tickets were written, 164 arrests were made resulting in 90 felony charges.

Since the beginning of the year police have taken 231 guns off the streets of Fort Myers.
