Early morning big rig crash closes US 41 in Collier County
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. - A semi-truck crashed just before 5 a.m. on U.S. 41 east of Port of the Islands Road. The crash forced the Florida Highway Patrol to completely shutdown the highway for more than three hours.
The road now has one lane open and FHP hopes to open the entire roadway this afternoon.
FHP reports that 29-year-old Yosuani Rodriguez Perez lost control of his truck while heading west on U.S. 41.
The semi-truck went into the east bound lane before hitting the shoulder and slamming into a guardrail and bridge where it overturned.
The truck's load of approximately 15 concrete pipes each weighing 2.5 tons each spilled onto the roadway and south shoulder.
Perez wasn't hurt but he was cited for careless driving.
