News anchor transition announced at Fox 4
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - WFTX, Fox 4, Ft. Myers/Naples/CapeCoral and Amy Wegmann jointly announce Ms. Wegmann’s departure as the primaryco-anchor for its evening and night time newscasts. Ms. Wegmann will now devote full-time focus in support her husband, Trey Radel’s, election campaign.
Mr. Radel is the Republican candidate for Congress in District 19. Fox 4 and Ms.Wegmann have reached a mutual agreement to end her employment with the station. The announcement was made today by Judy Kenney, Vice President and General Manager of Fox 4.
“It is a sad day at Fox 4,” said Kenney. “Amy has been with us since 2005 when she began as a Reporter and she rose quickly through the ranks to co-anchor with Patrick Nolan of Fox 4 News at 6pm, 10pm and 11pm. We’ll miss Amy and wish her the best in the future.”
“This was a very difficult decision for me, but I want to help my husband become our next U.S. Congressman. I will miss the day-to-day news activity and the people at Fox 4,” said Wegmann.
Eric Maze, News Director at Fox 4 added, “Amy was not just a news anchor. She was invested in covering the news in her hometown and that’s what made her work special for viewers.”
Kenney also announced a simultaneous promotion. “Emily Dishnow is now the permanent full time co-anchor, Monday through Friday. Emily has filled in for the past few months while Amy was on leave and our viewers have been incredibly supportive and complimentary. It’s a natural move for a strong member of our team,” said Kenney.
“I’m excited to be making this move permanent and will work hard to continue to serve the viewers of Southwest Florida,” said Dishnow. “Amy will be missed and now I look forward to working with Patrick and the entire team to further the ‘In Your Corner ’promise at Fox 4.”
