Rezoning downtown Cape Coral paves way for new business
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A big night for the city of Cape Coral as city council hands down a vote at tonight’s meeting. The vote gives a major boost to business owners, who may now have a great reason to open up shop in the city.
It’s all about enticing new businesses to open in the south Cape - and that's why the Community Redevelopment Agency fought for this change. What city leaders approved tonight would cut through some of the red tape needed to open more space there. And its effective immediately.
Cape city council officials voted to rezone three parts of downtown cape coral: Downtown Gateway, Downtown Edge and Downtown Core into a newly created district- the South Cape Downtown District.
The idea is this would streamline building codes, which would make the permitting process for new businesses quicker and easier.
“We are applying the new south cape downtown district to specific properties in this ordinance and in addition we're adopting the south cape downtown district street designation map,”
The ordinance will also ease parking in the south Cape. That’s something many say is much needed.
