FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. - The Lee County Sheriff's Office identified the man who drowned Sunday night on Fort Myers beach.

The incident happened on the shores near the Diamond Head Resort on Estero Boulevard.

The victim is identified as 47-year-old Ronald Edward Wilk of Lehigh Acres.

Around 5:45 Sunday evening, deputies recieved a call in reference to a missing person who had gone swimming. An additional call was received that noted an unconscious person was found behind the resort.

Upon arrival, paramedics attempted to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead.

People we talked to say a man and woman were swimming in the Gulf, when the woman got out of the water but the man did not. She went looking for him up and down the beach, but his body washed ashore a  little while later.
