CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Overgrown and out of control. Many families in Cape Coral are dealing with an ongoing problem:  unkempt properties next door.

Neighbors tell us one home’s lawn hasn't been mowed since April. Neighbors are out of patience.

Weeds, grass, and trees are completely out of control. The city did stop by notifying the homeowner posting this overgrown, neglected mess is indeed in violation of the law.

The backyard isn’t much better and that's the deal breaker for Bobbi Gianfrancesco. She says it's now a public safety issue.

Neighbors want to know why the city won't do anything about it.

“I have a six and four year old that play out there every day and I told them my fear is of snakes and rodents.” Bobbi said.

Other neighbors also called the city to complain and received the same response.

FOX 4 paid a visit to Code Compliance -- but no one there would talk.

We finally heard from the city's Public Information Director Connie Barron through email:   "The house was foreclosed on by the bank and the owner is contesting. The case was forwarded to the city's mowing vendor on august 8 and is awaiting mowing services."

City councilwoman Raina Erbick says this becoming a common problem in the cape.

“Unfortunately it's a sign of the times the economic issue its patience and there's only so much we can do.”
