Housing slump, commercial boom in Lee County
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Contractors pulled 41 permits to build single-family homes in unincorporated Lee County in August 2012. The construction is valued at more than $13.3 million.
That compares to 63 permits issued in July and 27 issued in August 2011, according to the Lee County Department of Community Development.
20 new commercial permits were issued totaling $20.3 million, compared to nearly $3.7 million in July and nearly $10.8 million in August 2011.
