Fort Myers police investigate shooting at apartment complex

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A shooting shortly after 7 a.m. Friday morning sent one man to the hospital in Fort Myers.

The shooting happened at the Sabal Palms Apartments, near the intersection of MLK and Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard.

Upon arrival police located David Watson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The police investigation revealed that Watson was inside of the apartment sleeping with his girlfriend when they were awakened by someone banging on a window and the front door. Watson got up and went to the window and found Jamarius Causey attempting to enter the apartment. Watson and Causey began to argue and during the confrontation Watson was shot.

Causey fled the scene. Police located Causey a short time later and he was taken into custody without incident. Police arrested Causey for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, burglary and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
