Romney reaches out to those disappointed by Obama
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - As he accepts his party's presidential nomination, Mitt Romney is reaching out to those Americans who supported Barack Obama four years ago, but who are disappointed in him.
In excerpts of Romney's speech released in advance, he says, "You know there's something wrong with the kind of job he's done as president when the best feeling you had, was the day you voted for him."
He says, "Hope and change had a powerful appeal" -- but that Americans who felt "excitement" when they voted for Obama haven't been able to feel that excitement about his presidency.
In the excerpts of his speech, Romney says the majority of Americans now believe the future won't be better than the past -- and he says, "If Barack Obama is re-elected, you will be right."
He says he wanted Obama to succeed, so that the nation would succeed -- but that "his promises gave way to disappointment and division."
