WFTX - The Ecuadoran government says they will announce today whether they will grant Julian Assange's request for asylum.

The WikiLeaks founder has been holed up in Ecuador's embassy in London since filing his petition for asylum in June.

British officials say they have a responsibility to extradite Assange to Sweden to face allegations of rape and sexual molestation.

The Ecuadoran government said British authorities sent them a letter saying they would "assault" the embassy if Assange was not handed over to them.

WikiLeaks has published hundreds of thousands of classified U-S documents.

Assange says he fears Sweden will hand him over to the United States to face charges related to the document leak.
