COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - A shootout that erupted when a man being brought an eviction notice opened fire on a Texas law enforcement officer left three people dead, including the officer and the gunman, on Monday near the Texas A&M University campus.

A 51-year-old man was the third person killed in the shootings at an off-campus home not far from the university's football stadium, College Station Assistant Police Chief Scott McCollum said. Police previously had said the man was 65.

Three other law enforcement officers and a 55-year-old woman were wounded, he said.

Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann had gone to the home with an eviction notice just after 12 p.m., McCollum said. Thomas Alton Caffall, 35, who lived there, opened fire from inside, police said.
