The dangers of hearing loss in kids
WFTX - A national report that came out less than a year ago showed that hearing loss among teens is up significantly in the past 15 years. Untreated hearing loss can lead to permanent damage to critical communication skills. It can also cause a student to perform poorly in school, and have low self esteem. Lots of teens are also embarrassed by the thought of having to wear an ugly, bulky hearing aid.
Some warning signs that kids ages 5-12 are suffering from hearing loss are slurring of speech, excessive volume on tv, frequently misunderstanding spoken directions, declining grades in school. Teens symptoms are the same as kids signs, plus increased social isolation and aggression.
