Horrifying 911 call released
Boyfriend describes savage state of his loved one's body in San Carlos Park
LEE COUNTY, Fla. - The Lee Sheriff's Office has released the horrifying 911 call made after a San Carlos Park man found his girlfriend's body in their Three Oaks neighborhood.
"My girlfriend's been murdered," Russell Myers says on the call.
"They cut her throat."
He tells the operator he just came home from the store when he found Debra Striano's body in their home.
"I don't know if there's anybody around here still. I just left and I just came here."
"I'm scared to go in my house," says Myers who expressed concern that whoever killed his girlfriend may still be near by.
"Oh my God, they were probably looking for me too," he says.
"And there's lights on all over where they must've run around the house looking for money."
The 911 operator can be head asking Myers if it's possible his girlfriend is still alive.
"No, they almost cut her head off. Somebody.. no, no, oh my God. I'll never forget this as long as I live," he says.
"She's definitely dead. They cut her throat. "
"Her neck is completely severed... oh my God... It must have been horrible people."
"You need to get the police here immediately," he says.
"There's blood all over my dog."
"Oh I'm sorry Scruffy," he says apparently trying to comfort the dog.
" When was the last time you've seen her," asks the operator.
"20 minutes ago. Her body's got to still be warm," he says.
"I'm afraid to walk in there. There's blood all over the house"
Myers says he was trying to cotact his girlfriend while he was at the store.
"I was calling her and she didn't pick up," he says.
"Someone came in to rob her," he says - apparently speculating about the motive.
"The front door was open, the ransacked my house"
"It was done with a machete or something," he adds about her injuries.
"Oh Debbie, Oh Debbie, honey," he can be heard saying as his moans in pain.
"Oh my God she didn't have a chance," he says.
"She's just a little girl," referring to Striano's petite frame.
"Oh my God, honey," he says.
"My poor dog is all full of blood," he says about a service dog named Scruffy in the home.
"You don't know who might have done this," asks the operator.
"No, I really don't," says Myers.
"They cut her almost head sliced completely off."
"I can't believe this."
Myers can be hear offering words of comfort to the dog.
"Scruffy, it's OK honey."
"He's covered in blood," he tells the operator.
"I don't know what he tried to do or what," apparently speculating the dog may've tried to help his dying mistress.
The 8 minute 911 call winds down as Myers sees deputies approaching.
"Oh my God in heaven, here they come," he says.
"Oh my God, oh my God. I just don't believe this."
Myers' first words to an approaching officer can be heard on the 911 call.
