Viewers respond to Punta Gorda officer investigation
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - Fox 4 viewers are sounding off about the Punta Gorda police officer who's still pulling in a salary while he's under investigation.
Punta Gorda police officer Harvey Ayers has been sitting at home since june 13th while Internal Affairs investigates five separate cases.
We don't know what they're investigating, but we can tell you Ayers has received six written reprimands and a verbal reprimand since 2004, including one for not watching a prisoner who later escaped.
Even though he's not patrolling the streets, Ayers continues to get paid more than $5,000 so far.
Mike from Port Charlotte called our viewers voice line in support of Ayers. "I think we need to have faith in the police chief but I think we need to have faith in the person that's on suspension. These are the people that protect us."
ON our Fox 4 Facebook page, Angela wasn't as supportive.
Angela Bailey - “No surprise. Police misconduct results in paid vacation all the time!”
Fred is ready to take action.
Fred Mcfarland – “I will be outside tomorrow with a sign asking FDLE to investigate PGPD.”
