Ever had a Calamondin cake?
Alex checks out rare Calamondin Cafe
Fort Myers - Ever had a Calamondin cake? Well the only place you can buy one in the US is right here in Southwest Florida. Fox 4 Rising's Alex Butler checked out the Calamondin Cafe in Fort Myers, FL. They have the largest grove of Calamondin fruit in the whole US. Check them out and try one of their tea cakes or large cakes, as well as Coulee (a delicious spread for something like toast) and a Calamondin body/hand scrub.
Working with Calamondins is a labor-intensive process. The peel is delicate, so harvesting must be done with scissors to snip the stem, rather than just grabbing the fruit and risking tearing the skin and contaminating the inside. Each fruit must be hand squeezed to remove seeds. As Calamondins are small, this is a time consuming endeavor. Is it worth it? Our taste testers say YES.
