Tax-free online shopping may soon be a thing of the past and that means you'll be shelling out more money!
Right now, if a retailer doesn't have an actual physical location in a state- the retailer doesn't have to charge you a state sales tax. But a new proposed bill would change that, meaning those online items will cost you more. Needless to say, not everyone is on board with the idea.
“Nothing could be less fair to America's small businesses than forcing them to collect and remit sales taxes for nearly 10,000 different jurisdictions across the country.” Steve DelBianco says,
A coalition of internet companies including eBay and Overstock are lobbying against the proposed law. It's still being debated in Congress.
