CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Cape Coral police detectives swarmed The Crossings apartment complex early this morning after reports a 50 year old man was stabbed and beaten. Residents want answers.
Police are saying little about the assault that has left the victim in serious condition at Lee Memorial. The suspect is not in custody -- but police say there is no threat to the public. Residents say the attack all started when a blue truck's tires were slashed.
“I'd say The Crossings has gotten different in the past year or so. A lot of things have been happening in this apartment complex.”
As police collected evidence, we talked to residents about their safety concerns. Stephanie Cowart has lived here for three years.
“A person next door to me got robbed at gunpoint about a year ago last Christmas.” Cowart said.
Residents tell us there is no security on site whatsoever and visitors can easily access the grounds through a gate which is supposed to be only opened for tenants.
So we tried to take to The Crossings’ management about these security concerns, and we were asked to leave the property.
We called the owners of the property based out of Boston for comment about resident safety concerns and we never heard back from them.
As far as the condition or the indentity of the victim, that information is not being released by Cape PD tonight.
