UPDATE: Death investigation at a Port Charlotte home
Deputies identify the 2 men as Robert Correia and his son
PORT CHARLOTTE- Charlotte County Sheriff's Office received a call around 6:30 on Friday night. Deputies found two men dead inside a Port Charlotte home.
William Yocum has lived in the neighborhood for 16 years and lives right next to the home that is now surrounded with yellow tape.
"It's a shock. That's all I can say. It's a shock to the whole neighborhood because these people over there are in their 90s and if they needed some help, they use to call Bob over," said William Yocum, neighbor.
When deputies arrived, they found the bodies of 54-year-old Robert Allen Correia and his 31-year-old son Robert Allen Correia, Jr. at a Port Charlotte home on Inverness Street.
CCSO says the father lived at the home and his son had been staying there off and on. A friend found the two and called deputies. Both men had gunshot wounds and next door neighbors recall hearing several gunshots Friday night.
"I said to my wife wonder what that was that wasn't fireworks or anything. It was gunshots," said Yocum.
The sound of gunfire rattled this usually quiet neighborhood. Amy Oliveria says she returned home from vacation on Friday to find flashing lights on her street.
"Five police cars over there, two on the other side and a couple of under covers," said Oliveria.
CCSO says this incident appears to be domestic related and there should be no immediate concern for neighbors' safety. CCSO is not elaborating on details surrounding the men's death. The home remains a crime scene and deputies remain on scene.
