CAPE CORAL - A different kind of flag has residents fired up this Memorial Day. They say their neighbor is flying the confederate flag, which has been associated with racism, on a day meant to honor all of America's veterans. So we wanted to know what the homeowners had to say about this.
Four in your Corner's Mike Mason going straight to the source for answers.
The homeowner says he had no idea this flag would create such a controversy. But his neighbors say, at the very least, it's inappropriate and the flag should never have been displayed on Memorial Day.

Tonya Kauwe: "I don't agree with anything that thing stands for.”
Mike Mason: "Would you like to see him take it down?”
Tonya Kauwe: "Absolutely. If they want to fly a flag they should be flying the United States flag."

Displaying an American flag on Memorial Day is a common way to support those who fought for our country but one flag in Cape Coral has some folks fired up.

Tonya Kauwe: "I think it's wrong. The confederate flag stands for a lot of things I don't agree with."

The confederate flag is attached to an ATV that sits on the back of a pickup truck, parked plain as day in the front yard.  Neighbors we spoke with feel the flag symbolizes racism and displaying it on Memorial Day is not at all patriotic

Teddy Leskiewicz: "I think it would have been better off left alone for this day, you know any other day, this is the only day that he's flying it.”
Mike Mason: "You've never seen it there before?"
Teddy Leskiewicz: "It was never there before, you know today was the only day and I think it's probably an inappropriate day for it."

Mike Mason: "Does it offend you?”
Brenda Capsul: "Yeah. I feel like the South lost, get over it."

So we decided to ask the homeowner why he has a confederate flag in his front yard.

Adam Brown: "The only reason it's on there is because we were out at the Redneck Yacht Club last weekend and it's mandatory to have a flag on the back of your four wheeler."

Adam Brown says he never meant to create any controversy and confederate flags are commonly posted on ATV's at the Redneck Yacht Club. Brown says neighbors are over-reacting and Memorial Day has nothing to do with why the flag is in his front yard.

Mike Mason: "I think the concern is that it's Memorial Day and your neighbors haven't seen it there any other day except Memorial Day."
Adam Brown: "No, we just got back this morning from the Redneck Yacht Club."

We asked Brown if he planned to take the flag down but he said he was going to leave it on the ATV and he wasn't planning on moving the four wheeler anytime soon.
