Fox 4 gets results for couple with problem power bill
Troubleshooter Colleen Hogan gets results
(LEE COUNTY, Fla.) - Four In Your Corner is getting results for a Lee County couple, upset over billing problems with their power company.
Troubleshooter Colleen Hogan is getting to the bottom of the mix-up and getting them results.
There was a mix-up with the way the couple was being billed by Florida Power and Light, so Fox 4 called FPL and right away, a worker reached out to the couple to get it all straightened out.
"The company wanted us to pay our bills online and we did not wish to do that," FPL customer Lydia said. Lydia asked that Fox 4 did not use her last name.
Lydia and her husband Tony say they used to get their bills and statements in the mail. Then, the company started sending their bills online. Which was a problem for the couple for several reasons.
Lydia says, they are fearful of identity thieves and fraud online, plus they couldn't retrieve their statement and see their usage.
"I had written to them (FPL) by email and also by mail that we do not wish to pay our bills online," she said.
"You tried to get this fixed yourself but didn't have any luck?" Hogan asked.
"Nope," she said. "Not until today."
Fox 4 reached out to FPL for the couple. A spokesperson said that a worker called the couple right away and resolved the issue. The worker was able to get the bill pay method switched back to the way it was; though the mail.
The FPL spokesperson said the couple had somehow been enrolled in online bill pay.
Regardless, Lydia and Tony are happy knowing they can go back to enjoying their vacation.
"Until now, we didn't know where to turn," Tony said.
An FPL spokesperson says if you have any problems with your billing, reach out to customer service first, to try and get it figured out.
