New information on newborn found in freezer
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - New disturbing details coming to light in the case of a southwest Florida baby's body found in a freezer.
It was over one week ago that a baby was found inside a freezer, wrapped in a garbage bag in a Punta Gorda home.
Police tonight confirm the mother of that child is 27 year old Jessica Smallwood. New details you're about to read are graphic.
On January 29th, Smallwood called paramedics complaining of pain. She was transported to the hospital.
Exams indicated she had been 7 to 9 months pregnant.
Smallwood had an umbilical cord still attached that had two nylon zip ties to stop the bleeding. Staff at the hospital alerted the police after a conversation with Smallwood.
They searched her house the next day and found the baby girl in a bloody garbage bag, still in the fetal position.
As of tonight, police still haven't arrested Smallwood.
