Edison picks presidential search firm
New president could be hired as early as May
FORT MYERS - Edison State College is one step closer to picking a president.
On Tuesday, the board of trustees voted unanimously to hire Washington D.C.-based Academic Search LLC to find a replacement for Dr. Ken Walker.
The group has experience picking college presidents and CEO's which the board agrees is a good thing to get a diverse group of candidates.
The search firm charges a flat fee of $70,000. They anticipate an additional $10,000 on top of that for administrative costs and travel expenses for candidates flying in for interviews.
The total cost is expected to be around $80,000 which is less than the $100,000 the college budgeted.
Board member Pamela Seay says a contract could be offered as early as this May.
"Oh it's very ambitious, yes," Seay said by phone when asked if that was an unrealistic goal. "But we think, and the company that we have hired, Academic Search, believes that it is doable."
Seay says it is better to get the process "going quickly" rather than dragging it.
