School choice applications stressing out parents, students
FORT MYERS - With hands clutching phones and forms, parents wait in long lines with patience running short.
The first day of registration brought out the hopeful and the worried.
For many, school choice registration is an expected routine where you wait, take a number, then wait some more.
But for parents new to Lee County, this process is a foreign concept, taking them out of their comfort zone.
"It's a little scary, especially like I said when you have an honor student college depends on stuff like that so." Dennis Webb says.
A sentiment echoed by most parents we talked to in line. Parents are hopeful each step forward would bring their children one step closer to the school they covet.
"It's so important. you want them in that school. it's like you have to fight for it. it's really difficult, strange." Lisa Prado says.
Showing up on the first day of registration doesn't give you a leg up on those who register between now and march second. Everyone who meets the deadline will have an equal chance of getting their first choice school.
