Chilmonik announces run for school board
FORT MYERS - Outspoken former Lee County School board member Bob Chilmonik announced Wednesday that he is running for school board again.
Chilmonik spent eight years and two terms on the board fighting for shorter bus rides and an end to school choice.
He will be running against the board's current vice chair Jeanne Dozier, who is serving her 12th year on the board.
"We have students taking extremely long bus rides," said Chilmonik, "and I think its time we have a vote on the school board to move the county back to neighborhood schools."
Chilmonik says he wants stricter oversight of the district's budget.
He says he wants to bring back an internal board auditor to keep track of spending.
