Contentious Fort Myers sign displays anti-Obama messages
FORT MYERS - "Right now the state of the economy is so depressed. We felt we had to make a statement," said Lee Crowther, the owner of Crowther Roofing & Sheet Metal of Florida.
Crowther's fed up with the Obama Administration. He's displaying a digital sign saying the government isn't doing enough to get America out of the red.
"There's too many good people in this country, military vets, taxpayers, people that vote that are out of jobs right now," explained Crowther. "We gotta get people back to work. Right now that's not happening."
He says he's laid off more than 300 people in the last four years and 10 just last week.
"There's a lot of hard working people that have worked for us over the years that aren't working for us anymore," said Crowther about how the economy has affected his business. "They don't have jobs because there's no jobs out there."
So, on his $60,000 marquee, he's sharing his political views for all to see.
Crowther said he's had virtually no opposition to the display. And one woman even left a tiny, American flag under his sign.
"Are you concerned your political views displayed on the sign could affect your business?," asked Fox 4.
"Not at all," replied Crowther. "We're not doing this for business. If some people don't want to do business with us because of a political message that we put on our sign then so be it."
Crowther's electric displays are just the beginning.
"It's our right, it's our sign and we'll do what we see fit with it," said Crowther.
Crowther says today's displayed messages are tame compared to what's coming in the next few weeks.
