Cape Coral businesses commemorate 9/11 attacks
It's been ten years
Setting up a patriotic display in front of his store, Ralph Sangiovanni remembers the victims of the September 11th attacks.
"When we started to figure out exactly the lives that were lost, the impact that it has had on us," he told me. "It was extremely emotional for me. It still is."
Originally from New York, Ralph even visited Ground Zero a week after the attacks. Now, he commemorates the ten year anniversary with this flag.
And he's not alone. Nearly every business in downtown Cape Coral is putting up a commemorative flag. They were provided by the community redevelopment agency.
The flags are free for local businesses, thanks to private sales and a $700 donation from the Kiwanis Club. "If we can remember the tragedy, the loss families are still dealing with, and be respectful of those who gave their all trying to save those that were injured, that's the message that we're seeking," said Helen Ramey, with the CRA. The flags will be up for the entire month of September. If you're interested in purchasing one for your home or business, you can get them from the Kiwanis Thrift Store for $25.
