Man arrested for having sex with underage girl
PORT CHARLOTTE- The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit detectives arrested a Fort Myers man for having sex with juvenile girl and taking a video of a sex act in his car.
Tanjeev Patwary, 20, has been charged with three felony counts of Sexual Performance by a Child, and two counts of Computer Pornography.
The investigation of Patwary began on March 31st when deputies responded to a call that Patwary had been harassing the Port Charlotte girl by making threatening phone calls to her. He also kept showing up at the girl’s apartment and sent a video to her email of the two having sex in his car.
The juvenile said their relationship started about three years ago at a Mosque in Fort Myers when she was 13, and at 14 he forced her to have sex. The girl told detectives Patwary told her that in his culture the man owns the woman and she had no right to say yes or no. There were multiple sexual encounters after that in Charlotte and Lee counties. The girl finally broke up with Patwary on March 17th this year and the harassment began.
On April 12th, Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Patwary and charged him with Lew and Lascivious Battery during their initial investigation. He posted $50,000 bond and was released.
Detectives obtained the girl’s two cell phones and accessed her email account. The Sheriff’s Office Computer Crime detectives captured text messages, phone calls, and emails that were submitted for evidence. Detectives also discovered video evidence on Patwary’s cell phone of the sex act in his car that he sent to the juvenile girl’s email.
Patwary is being held on no bond in the Charlotte County Jail.
