Lee County Schools
Is the end near for school choice in Lee County?
Could this be the end of school choice in Lee County? The district's new superintendent says he's not ruling it out.
Dr. Joseph Burke toured South Fort Myers High School Monday morning on the first day of school.
Burke told Four In Your Corner's Pooja Lodhia school choice is working in lee county, but it has its drawbacks.
Dr. Burke: “We have the vast majority of our students get placed in schools that are in their top three choices.”
Pooja/FOX 4: “I know a lot of our viewers and other parents in the district do have an issue with long school bus rides because of school choice.”
Dr. Burke: “I do, too. I think it's a big issue...but on the other hand, there are a lot of families that choose long bus rides.”
Pooja/FOX 4: “Do you foresee making any changes in school choice during your tenure here?”
Dr. Burke: “Well, we may”
Burke says the school board will discuss school choice in detail at its workshop on August 16th.
