FORT MYERS - Edison State hired an expert for another problem that's plagued the school: a course swapping scandal.
The school will shell out nearly $16,000 dollars to a consultant to review its course substitution policies.
The school had been letting students take easier classes in place of tougher core classes.
The scandal could put the school's re-accreditation, known as SACS, in jeopardy.
"Normally what happens is if you have an issue you have a 2 year monitoring period from SACS to resolve the issues after the monitoring you either lose your accreditation or you're put on probation."
Mike Mason: “It's not smooth sailing right now for you,”
Atkins: “No, it isn't smooth sailing, but we're being very proactive and we're going to fix the situation."
Edison will get a final evaluation for accreditation in November. ‘
Edison put two deans on leave because of the scandal pending an internal investigation.
