Crooks steal food from Lehigh mother on food stamps
LEHIGH ACRES - Earlier this week, single mom Michelle Martin was leaving a Lehigh Acres Walmart. It's the same shopping ritual she's done hundreds of times before, but when she got to her car, she found something not quite right.
"I first came to my car and saw a security guard and a sales associate standing next to my car," said Martin.
According to Lee County Deputies, they witnesssed 2 guys, caught on store surveillance, break open Michelle's car trunk and take her groceries.
"A good 8 to 9 bags full of groceries. Over 100 dollars worth of groceries just stolen," said Martin.
They were groceries mostly for her 9 month old son Marcus. She had just purchased them from the Publix up the street using food stamps. Michelle stopped at this Walmart to purchase meats.
"It's just a shame because the world that we live in today and people doing things like that. I struggle just like everybody else does," said Martin.
The surveillance tapes show the two men shopping with family or friends. Deputies say they took off in a Chevy or Buick 4 door dark colored sedan.
Michelle says she can't replace the groceries. For a struggling single mom she sees it as someone stealing food right out of her child's mouth.
