CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Businesses have felt the pinch because of a downtown construction project. One even went as far to announce they'll close until road work is completed.

"It's a small set back, but I think it'll wind up being a good thing," Mauricio Pelletier said. Pelletier runs the everyday operations for City Subs in Cape Coral.

City Subs decided to temporarily close on June 23rd. The business will reopen once the roundabout phase is finished in early August.

"We just felt it'll be better for everybody concerned to close temporarily," Pelletier said. "We saw the drop in sales, the drop in traffic, and figured it would be the best time," he added.

The SE 47th Terrace Streetscape Project said it is eager to support businesses in any way during construction. The project team has partnered with a few other organizations to speak about tools available to adapt business during construction.

City Subs said it will renovate some parts of the restaurant in order to take advantage of the finished construction project.

"I think it is going to add to this area tremendously," Pelletier said. "It's a beautiful place to do it," he added.

A project spokesperson said the project will be finished at the end of the year.

There will be a Q&A event on Wednesday, June 20th from 2 to 4pm at City Subs.
