CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A Southwest Florida hospital worker is facing several charges after police say he stole a gold chain valued at nearly $2,000 off a recently deceased patient.

According to Cape Coral Police, 20-year-old Reinier Padron was working at Cape Coral Hospital on September 15th when he was accused of removing the necklace off the deceased patient and taking it to Cape Jewelry & Pawn.

Paperwork from the pawn shop shows that Padron claimed the necklace, valued at $1,938, was his.

Probable cause was issued to arrest Padron, and he was taken into custody Thursday and booked into Lee County Jail and released on $25,000 bond.

He is facing charges of Grand Theft, Dealing in Stolen Property, and False Claim to Ownership to Pawnbroker.
