FORT MYERS, Fla -- The Lee County School District discussed the possibility of changing their gun policy, Tuesday, proposing legal gun carriers be able to keep them stowed away in their cars.

Schools are currently gun-free zones, including the parking lot. However, some school board members believe there should be an exception to protect faculty and students over 18 who carry concealed weapons in an enclosed casing in their cars.

"If you happen to have it, you're going on a fishing trip, you have a bowie knife to clean the fish or whatever, and you have it properly locked inside a car, that's not a felony [with this,]" said School Board member Steven Teuber.

However, if this proposal is passed, taking a weapon out of it's casing and out of a car would still be a violation, resulting in a felony.
