LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Two people have been cited for a crash in San Carlos Park that killed a baby last week.

Troopers say Nicolas Cruz, who was less than a year old, died from his injuries Sunday.

The crash happened at 11:42 a.m. last Thursday on U.S. 41 at Hickory Drive in the San Carlos Park community of Fort Myers.

According to Florida Highway patrol, 19-year-old Wilton de la Cruz was driving west on Hickory Drive and stopped at U.S. 41 before pulling out to make a left turn directly into the path of a northbound car on U.S. 41.

De la Cruz’s car was hit by the northbound car, causing minor injuries to him and a teenaged passenger.

The other car contained two adults and three children, including the infant, who troopers say was not properly restrained.

A 10-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl also suffered minor injuries.  That car’s driver, Vicente Cruz, was cited for lacking proper child restraints.

Wilton de la Cruz was charged with violation of right of way.
