LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A student at Riverdale High School was critically injured Tuesday morning when she was hit by a car.

15-year-old Marissa Perez  was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition after the crash around 6am.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Perez was walking with traffic on the southbound shoulder of Sunshine Boulevard North near 61st Street West.

That's when troopers say the driver of a southbound car veered right onto the shoulder and hit Perez, before hitting the brakes and veering left.

The car's driver, 21-year-old Robert Hrara of Lehigh Acres, was charged with failure to drive within a single lane.
