Trooper uses PIT maneuver to stop DUI driver

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Florida Highway Patrol used the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT Maneuver) to stop an impaired driver. 

Around 10:03am Tuesday morning, Florida Highway Patrol responded to reports of a possibly impaired driver traveling in a Green Kia Soul on southbound 75 near Exit 139, Luckett Road. Troopers located and attempted to stop the car as it continued down I-75. In that time, the driver failed to stop and continued to drive recklessly. 

The car eventually exited at mile marker 107, Pine Ridge Road, in Collier County and began to travel westbound. As the car attempted to turn right on northbound Airport Road, a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper executed the PIT maneuver to disable to car. 

The driver, Kathy Palmer, was transported to a local hospital as a precaution and placed under arrest for Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless driving and driving while impaired - drugs.
