Riverwood Estates in East Naples suffered widespread damage from Hurricane Irma.

Mike and Judy Erickson thought their home would weather Irma's powerful winds while they evacuated ahead of the storm.

"There was video taken from our neighbor's house that showed the back of the house and it looked intact, we were kind of hoping everything was intact," said Mike.

But reality set in for the couple when they got back into town earlier this week.

"Oh my God, where's our house," he said.

The entire front end of the couple's home was demolished.

"I think that's the living room roof on top of the roof over there now," said Mike.

The couple now keeps watch over what's left of their home.

"Earthquakes, you don't have to think about them before they happen, but a hurricane, you know what's coming, you don't know how much damage it's going to do," said Judy.

Rows of homes in this community damaged.
the Ericksons are greatful to still be around to pick up the pieces.

"We're healthy, we got out of it ok, we're alive," said Mike.

And they also gained new friendships.

"I've met more neighbors in the last few days than I have in the three years that I've been here." said Judy.

The Erickson's have a place to stay while they decide if they are going to rebuild their home.
