The Boy Scouts are making a historic change and will admit girls into the Cub Scouts.

The organization is establishing a new program for older girls that will follow the same curriculum as the Boy Scouts.

The Cub Scout Dens, the smallest unit, will be single gender with either all boys or all girls. While the larger Cub Scout group will have the option to welcome both genders if they chose.

Leaders for the Boy Scouts say the change is needed to provide more options for parents.

Organization leaders for the Girl Scouts have criticized the initiative and says it will put a stain on the century old bond between the two groups.

The Boy Scouts of America was established in 1910 and is one of the largest youth organizations in America.

The program for older girls is expected to start in 2019.
