Heisman history: Johnny Manziel first freshman to win honor
NEW YORK CITY - Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel became the first freshman ever to win the prestigious Heisman trophy, which goes to the player voted as the nation's best college football player.
Manziel's scrambling style led the Aggies to a surprising 10 and 2 record in their inaugural season in the SEC.
Nicknamed Johnny Football, he quarterbacked A&M to an amazing upset of then #1 Alabama 29 to 24 on November 10.
Manziel beat out Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o and Kansas State senior QB Collin Klein for the honor.
