New school year, new bus routes
FORT MYERS - Lee County students are heading back to class in just two weeks and some will be on new bus routes. The district released this year's new bus routes over the weekend and so far there are no cmplaints. Every year the district reevaluates their bus routes. After last year's transporation audit raised concerns about long bus rides some changes have been made. For instance, some bus routes have been consolodated. And in Cape Coral, some bus stops are now closer to street lights so kids won't have to wait in the dark. "In years past to a fault we were very accomodating to families that needed an additional stop to a bus route," said district spokesperson Joe Donzelli. "We really did that not...taking a big concern in extending the length of the route but really trying to accommodate all of the families." "What you're starting to see," he said, "is a little bit of pull back from that now." The district says they will try to avoid long bus rides "whenever possible."
