Fiery multiple car crash leads to fatality

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A fiery multiple vehicle crash near the intersection of Summerlin Road and Winkler Road in Fort Myers left one person dead and injured 10 others.

Florida Highway Patrol confirming there is one fatality from the crash: 38-year-old Kristn Lee of Iowa.

Two Iona Firefighters who needed medical attention after responding to the scene were also brought to the hospital to be checked by medical professionals. 

According to FHP, a semi truck was headed north on Summerlin Road and slammed into the rear of a Lincoln Town Car, causing a chain reaction with five other vehicles.  The collision caused the car to burst into flames.  Lee was riding in the back seat of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two occupants of the car also suffered critical injuries and were trauma alerted to Tampa Regional.  They have been identified as 70-year-old James Cwanek of Fort Myers and 34-year-old Austin Perkins of Minnesota.

Three others involved in the accident suffered serious injuries and were taken to Health Park Hospital.

The driver of the semi truck, 43 year old Orlo Carson of North Fort Myers, suffered minor injuries, as did four other victims.

Charges are pending further investigation.
