LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Members of a Southwest Florida church are speaking out as Lee County deputies continue to investigate the mysterious death of a beloved volunteer. Jo Ann Leasure who was known for her work at Covenant Presbyterian Church was found dead inside her condo at The Parkway Apartment in North Fort Myers on Wednesday morning.

Close friends of Jo Ann tell Four In Your Corner she didn't show up to volunteer for Vacation Bible School that's how they knew something was wrong.

“Our director of family ministries called her there was no answer," Reverend Doctor Jefferey Deyoe of Covenant Presbyterian Church said. "We actually sent a volunteer over there and it was the volunteer from our vacation bible school who was here who found her.”

Skip Laukemper says Leasure loved everyone she met but the willingness she had to help others may have had something to do with her death.

"She had no children so every person she met was hers...was her family,” Laukemper said.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to an incident in the 3400 block of Hancock Bridge Parkway, in the Parkway Condominiums, around 9:45 a.m.

Arriving deputies requested the assistance of the Major Crimes Unit and a death investigation was launched.

At one point a blue SUV was towed from the scene.
