Bear tears through an elderly Naples woman's lanai
NAPLES, Fla.-
Friends and neighbors in one Naples community are coming together to help one of their own after a bear rips through a 90-year-old woman's linai and the woman says she's afraid she hasn't seen the last of the un-welcomed visitors.
Lois Martin said early Tuesday morning she was sleeping and didn't hear a thing, but neighbors spotted the two big bears headed toward her lanai.
Several screen panels were destroyed, there was trash everywhere and Lois said she knows what they had her eyes on.
"They're after food, and I have a garbage disposal and I put whatever I can in the garbage disposal but you can't put cans or bones." Lois Martin said.
Neighbors in nearby communities are running into the same problem. Last week, someone snapped pictures of a bear trying to look for food in their front yard.
Lois said her neighbors help out when they can but said it is hard to throw her trash in a shed or secure place because she is handicapped.
FWC said they can't say if it is the same bear, but said it is possible. Now, Lois worried this will be a re-occuring nightmare.
"They're going to come back and say well we did good last night lets try it tonight, so I probably won't sleep at all tonight." Lois Martin said.
