Lee Superintendent to address media

FORT MYERS -- The Lee County Superintendent of Schools will address the media Monday afternoon for the first time since Friday's school shooting tragedy in Connecticut.

A Lee County School District official confirms Dr. Joseph Burke will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. Monday. 

In a release issued Monday afternoon, the district explained the purpose of the event.

"In light of the recent tragic events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, Dr. Joseph Burke will be speaking to the media concerning the District's reaction to these events, safety plans and procedures that the District has in place to protect our students and staff members in the event of an emergency, and our crisis response plans for aiding students, employees and families in the aftermath of tragedy."
