Lee County Sheriff responds to questions about local school safety
FORT MYERS -- The tragedy in Connecticut Friday has prompted questions about the security of schools across Southwest Florida.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office received several requests for interviews Friday regarding the Connecticut tragedy and how the Lee County Sheriff's Office works to keep local students safe, but the LCSO declined to speak to the media.
Sheriff Mike Scott did release a brief statement regarding the efforts to keep schools safe.
"We at the Sheriff's Office mourn tragedies like this and remain committed to doing everything in our power to maintain public safety. School campuses have always been and will continue to be a focus of our resources."
