Lehigh Mother fighting for her son's life
LEHIGH ACRES - 3 year old Michael Gonzalez looks like any other normal 3 year old but he isn't.
"You bring him to the grocery store and he wants an apple and I can't give it to him," said his mother Jennifer Gonzalez.
That's because he was born with a very rare food allergy. He can't eat regular food at all like a typical little boy. He can only have this product called Necoate mixed with water made by a company ouf of Britian called Nutricia.
"This is all he can have," said Gonzalez.
But 3 weeks ago, Jennifer claims Nutricia changed the ingredients when they re-labeled the product. Her son had a violent reaction.
"The new product makes him vomit and he gets reflux and starts screaming," said Gonzalez.
So now Jennifer has to buy the old product off websites like Amazon.com. It's costing hundreds of dollars. Jennifer contacted Nutricia and they told her nothing in the product changed.
"There telling me nothing has changed just the label they didn't change the glue, they didn't change the cans," said Gonzalez.
So we put a call into the company to ask them 2 specific questions. One, was the product changed and two, what can they do to help MIchael.
They released this statement saying:
"We have not changed our formulation. We have consulted with the FDA and have also undertaken additional tests internally and with independent, external groups to conform the product formulation is indeed the one we have always used. We have offered the Gonzalez family our full support."
Jennifer is convinced no matter what the company says the new product is being made with different ingredients.
