NAPLES, Fla. - A proposed hospital in Eastern Collier County could bring relief to nearby families.

"The closest hospital for some of those communities is 25, 30 miles away and in season with traffic it can take a very long time for people to get to a hospital," said Blake Gabel, President of Barron Collier Companies. He along with Richard Akin, CEO of Health Care Network of Southwest Florida, are looking into putting a hospital somewhere in Eastern Collier County.

The idea is sparking some conversation on Fox 4's Facebook page.

Andrea posted, "I'd say that one is most definitely needed way out there in that area!!!"

Robyn added "hope it will be a GOOD one."

Alexandra wrote "Naples is empty half of the year. This is another way of wasted quality tax payer dollars on something that will only cater to people that are here half of the time."

Planners are currently in phase two of the study which will address location, service and specialties.
