NAPLES - The Thanksgiving travel season kicks off on Wednesday and runs through Sunday, according to AAA, which predicts more cars will be on the roads.
"The expectation for automobile traveling this year is 39 million people, which is about 0.6% higher than last year," said Douglas Harper with AAA in Naples.
In Florida, 2 million people are expected to travel by road, up 0.5% from the same time last year.
There is no doubt as to why a slightly higher number of people will be hitting the roadways this year.
"Obviously when the prices go up driving decreases... so as long as gas prices continue to decline we'll see automobile travel."
Gas prices have dropped a whopping 35% in the last month, but some experts suspect that the dip could be coming to an end.
"Depending on what happens in the middle east as far as the tensions there."
The recent conflict in Israel could mean prices could start back on the upward trend right after Thanksgiving.
The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas will run you $3.41 a gallon.
In Florida, the price is $3.34 and in Ft. Myers the price is slightly higher at $3.37 a gallon.
"It is less expensive than air travel so there is a decline in air travel as oppose automobile travel."
