Semi driver hailed as hero
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. - Two people were taken to the hospital Sunday after an accident involving a Publix semi-truck.
It happened around 2:30 Sunday afternoon on I-75 near mile marker 158.
A Charlotte County Sheriff's Deputy tells FOX 4 the car got caught under the back wheel of the semi.
The deputy says if the truck driver would have slammed on the brakes the trailer would have crushed the entire car.
Instead, he was able to drag the trailer more than 900 feet saving the lives of the people inside.
FOX 4 has learned the driver was cited for inattentive driving.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
